Poor Third Quarter Dooms Riverton

Despite holding a one-point halftime lead, the Riverton Wolverines dropped an important eastern 4-A conference game 73-64 Saturday in Laramie. Unable to penetrate Laramie's second half zone defense, the Wolverines find themselves locked with Sheridan, and Laramie (all teams have one conference win) behind Gillette, Cheyenne Central and Cheyenne East at the midpoint of eastern 4-A conference play. The Wolverines travel to Sheridan and Gillette this weekend.

Freshman Boys Pick Up Win Against Lander

The Freshman Boys pick up a confidence boosting win over Lander on Tuesday, January 29. Since the last update, the team had lost to Jackson and Wyoming Indian, but got a win in Thermopolis as well as the Lander game. This brings their season record to 5-13. They have four regular season games left with Worland, Monday, February 4; Thermopolis, Thursday, February 7; Rawlins, Monday, February 11 and Rock Springs, Tuesday, February 19. Those games will lead them into the Worland Freshman Invitational on Saturday, February 23.

Boys Drop Two in Cheyenne

The Riverton Wolverine Boys basketball team dropped two games this weekend in Cheyenne. On Friday evening, the Wolverines fell to the Cheyenne Central Indians 70 - 43. Clark Mendes and Cody Bluemenshine scored 9 each for Riverton.

On Saturday, shooting only 27% from the field, Riverton was beat by Cheyenne East 56-44. Matt Raymond scored 16 to lead Riverton.

Up next for Riverton is a Tuesday evening home dual with Lander. The varsity game starts at 7:30pm (just after the Girls Lander-Riverton game) in Wolverine Gym.

Freshman Boys Need a Win Over Jackson Thursday

The Freshman Boys will entertain Jackson here on Thursday, January 17 at 5:30pm at Rendevouz School. Since the last update, the Freshman boys have dropped 4 games, one to Jackson last Tuesday. Their record for the season is 3-10.

Boys Drop Inter-Conference Tilt in Powell

The RHS Boys basketball team played its only game this week in Powell and came away with a 67-55 loss. Riverton was lead in scoring by Cody Blumenshine (14 points); Cory Smith (13); and P.J. Thomas (8). Riverton could not defend one of the state's top 3-A scorers in Michael Hildebrand as he dumped in 28 points for the Panthers - sinking many uncontested three-point shots. The loss drops Riverton's record to 3-9.

The boys host Gillette and Sheridan this weekend at RHS. Other games in the program this week include:

Boys Earn Weekend Split

The Riverton Wolverines boys basketball team split their games this weekend.

On Friday, the Wolverines beat Star Valley 70-65. Cory Smith and Cody Blumenshine each scored 21 to lead Riverton.

On Saturday, the Wolverines lost to third-ranked Evanston 71-63. Chad Hopkins lead Riverton with 25 points while Cory Smith added 11 points and Corbin Nichols had 10.

Freshman Boys Play in Rock Springs Saturday

The Freshman boys head to Rock Springs on Saturday for their first competition since before the Christmas break. On December 18 they traveled to Worland and came up with a loss bringing their record to 3-6 for the season.
