Volleyball Wins One At State

After falling on four games in the first round of the state volleyball tournament to Evanston (7-25, 12-25, 25-11 and 11-25), the RHS Lady Wolverine volleyball team defeated Cheyenne Central (26-24, 25-18 and 25-21) in three games Friday to advance to final-day play.

In their final game Saturday morning, Riverton was defeated by Sheridan (25-13, 25-23, and 25-19) to finish in sixth place.

Volleyball Team Gets 2nd Seed

The RHS Lady Wolverines dumped the Gillette Camels in their first round of seeding play at the 4-A East Regional Volleyball Tournament Saturday in Cheyenne. Sheridan later defeated Riverton to take the regional crown. With the win over Gillette and loss to Sheridan, the Lady Wolverines placed second and will open the state tournament against Evanston, the number 3 seed from the west.

Here are the qualifiers for state and their respective seeds:

4-A West: Kelly Walsh (1), Natrona (2), Evanston (3) and Star Valley (4)

4-A East: Sheridan (1), Riverton (2), Gillette (3) and Cheyenne Central (4)

Green River, Cheyenne East, Rock Springs, and Laramie failed to qualify for state.

Lady Wolverines Advance to State Volleyball

With wins over Laramie and Cheyenne Central, the Riverton Lady Wolverine Volleyball team advanced to the seeding round and have qualified to play in the state volleyball tournament which begins next Thursday in Casper.

The Lady Wolverines beat Laramie in three straight games and beat Central in four games to advance to a noon game against Gillette. Sheridan and Central have also qualified for state.

Lady Wolverines Spike Plainsmen

With seniors Tasha Bauer, Kris Berg, Britte Emerson, Sara Jennings, Brittney Keele, Britni Luther, and Megan Shaklee playing their final game in Wolverine gym, the Lady Wolverines thumped Laramie in three straight games (25-22, 25-21, 25-15). The win propels the Lady Wolverines into the regional volleyball tournament in Cheyenne beginning next Friday. Should Riverton place within the top four at regionals, they will advance to the state volleyball tournament in Casper the following week.

On Oct. 9th, the RHS Lady Wolverine 9th and 10th grade volleyball teams will travel to Dubois for matches at 4:30p and 5:30p. This is the make up from a game that was canceled last week.

Lady Wolverines 2-2 in Casper

After cruising to wins over Rawlins and Cody in pool play, the RHS Lady Wolverines dropped its final pool play match to Big Horn at the Casper Invitational Tournament on Friday. On Saturday, the Wolverines dropped a close match 25-22, 25-21 to defending state 3-A champion Wheatland.

Girls Drop Close Contest To Central

Despite being down zero games to two, the RHS Lady Wolverine volleyball team fought back last night in Wolverine Gym. Ultimately, Cheyenne Central prevailed three games to two. The fifth game went overtime but the Lady Wolverines fell short 17-19.

Up next for the Lady Wolverines is the Casper Invitational Tournament that begins today at the Events Center in Casper.

Here is today's schedule as printed in the on-line edition of the Casper Star Tribune:

10 a.m.: Sheridan vs. Douglas; Riverton vs. Rawlins; Natrona vs. Lander; Kelly Walsh vs. Green River.

Spikers Fall To Lady Plainsmen

Riverton's Varsity Lady Wolverines dropped a conference match to the Laramie Lady Plainsmen zero games to three Friday evening in Laramie. Up next for Riverton's program is a Saturday freshmen trip to Pinedale, freshmen and sophomore games at Wyoming Indian High School on Monday and a rare Thursday conference set of games with Cheyenne Central in Wolverine Gym beginning at 4pm. Then, the Lady Wolverines will travel to Casper for the annual Casper Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Lady Wolverines Drop Varsity Match to Tigers

The RHS Girls Volleyball Team traveled to Lander Tuesday night and came home with mixed results. The Freshmen and Jr. Varsity each swept Lander two games to none while the Varsity fell to the Tigers zero games to three. Earlier this year, Lander defeated Riverton's Varsity in the McDonalds Volleyball Tournament.

Volleyball Squad Falls Short In Sheridan

After upsetting the Camels from Campbell County High School in Gillette, the Riverton Lady Wolverines fell to the Sheridan Lady Broncs zero games to three in conference volleyball play in Sheridan Saturday. Earlier this season, Sheridan won the McDonald's Tournament in Riverton. The loss drops Riverton to 1-1 in conference play.

Lady Wolverines Thump Gillette

The Riverton Lady Wolverines shocked the Gillette Camels in girl's high school volleyball 3 games to 2 Friday evening in Gillette. Gillette is ranked 5th in class 5A in the most recent Wyopreps.com Coach's and Media Volleyball Poll. Riverton battles third-ranked Sheridan Saturday for their second conference contest of the season.

Volleyball Team Wins Siver 3rd Place

The RHS girls volleyball team concluded its effort in the Gillette Tournament with a third-place finish in the silver bracket by defeating Rawlins, 25-22, 20-25,15-13. Earlier in the day, the Wolverines avenged a previous loss to Cheyenne East by beating them 2 games to none but then fell to Laramie zero games to two. Laramie defeated Cheyenne Central to win the silver bracket while Casper Natrona defeated Casper Kelly Walsh to win the gold bracket.

Volleyball Team 1-2 in Pool Play in Gillette

Fresh off a solid showing in their season opening tournament in Riverton, the Lady Wolverines traveled to Gillette on Friday and defeated Buffallo but suffered losses to Rapid City Stevens and Cheyenne East in pool play of the Gillette tournament. Riverton continues tournament play Saturday in Gillette.

Volleyball Travels To Gillette

With the exception of Evanston, all Wyoming 4-A volleyball teams will be in Gillette Friday and Saturday. Riverton (both varsity and junior varsity) begins pool play Friday morning in the "E" pool with Cheyenne East, Buffalo and Rapid City Stevens. Tournament play begins at 9am each morning. Games are split between the two campuses of Gillette's high schools and Sage Valley Middle School.

Tourney Run Ends for Spikers

After going undefeated in pool play and defeating Worland (2-0) in the first round of bracket play, the RHS Lady Wolverines ended a fine first weekend after suffering a semi-final loss in the McDonald's Volleyball Tournament. Sheridan defeated Lander in three games to win the championship.

RHS Coach Tiffany Weber said after the tournament that she was happy with her team's improvement and its start for the year. The Lady Wolverines varsity and junior varsity travel to Gillette next Friday for a two-day tournament.

Off To A Great Start

With a win over Rock Springs (3 games to 1) in its first 2007 varsity game and wins over Pinedale, Jackson and Powell in the first round of the McDonald's Volleyball Tournament, the RHS Varsity Lady Wolverines are off to a great start in their young season.

Pool play continues for varsity competition (which includes Riverton's JV team) at the Riverton Middle School while the Riverton Sophomore Volleyball team plays at Rendezvous School.

Volleyball Squad Opens This Weekend

A busy weekend of volleyball starts Friday morning at 11am for the RHS Girls Volleyball Team. The Lady Wolverines open against Rock Springs. Because of on-going construction at Riverton High School, the game will be played at the Riverton Middle School Gym.

Then, at 1pm, Riverton jumps into pool play in the McDonalds Tournament. Varsity games will be played at the Riverton Middle School Gym. Joining the Lady Wolverines in pool play will be Jackson, Cody, Pinedale and Powell. The other pool consists of Lander, Rock Springs, Worland, Sheridan and the Lady Wolverine Jr. Varsity team.

The Lady Wolverines Sophomores also will compete in the McDonalds Tournament and will play their pool games at Rendezvous Gym.
