8th Grade Boys Basketball

Posted by Debbie Graham in Youth Basketball at 15:43
Last Thursday the "A" team traveled to Worland while the "B" traveled to WIJHS for their game. The "A" team added one to their win column beating Worland 44-36. The "B" team lost a close game to the Wyoming Indian Junior High 32-30.

Saturday was to be a full day of basketball but the weather hindered bus travel. Although Rock Springs made it over South Pass, Green River turned around at Farson and went home. The "A" Spartans came ready to play and pulled out to a 12-point lead. Rock Springs didn't give up, closed in on them and ended up tying the game with 2 minutes left. Foul trouble haunted the Spartans and Rock Springs took advantage eventually winning 32-27. The "B" Spartans sent Rock Springs home over snowy roads with a loss 33-32.

8th Grade Spartans Pick Up Wins

Posted by Debbie Graham in Youth Basketball at 07:48
Over the weekend the 8th grade boys basketball team traveled to Lander for a tournament with Jackson, Cody, Lander, Worland and Riverton. The "A" Spartans picked up two wins beating Worland 40-30 and then beating Cody 28-20. The "B" Spartans beat Cody coming from behind when Josh Wright put up a shot at the buzzer to take them into overtime. They won 32-31 and later handled Jackson 45-26.

On Tuesday, the Spartans met up with their cross county rivals again. The "A" team went into another overtime with the Tigers thanks to Gard Evans putting in a tying basket with only a few seconds on the clock. With strong free throw shooting from Gard Evans, Donaldo Holguin and Tyler Graham, they were able to stay on top winning 46-42. The "B" team struggled a bit in the first half but came out strong in the second half sending the Tigers home with a 42-31 loss.

RMS 8th Grade Boys Basketball Split on I-80 swing

Posted by Debbie Graham in Youth Basketball at 20:46
Early foul trouble slowed down the 8th grade boys basketball team in their first game of the season against Rock Springs on October 27th. A last second three point attempt failed ending the game with a loss 33-30 sending the Spartans down the road to their second game with Green River. Spartans got their second wind jumping out to a 24-4 lead at half time. They got their running game going and easily broke Green River's man to man defense. Green River then started their zone defense and climbed back into the game. The Spartans squeaked out the win 34-30.

The Spartans traveled to Rawlins on November 3rd ending with a 45-43 loss in overtime. Breaking their zone and turnovers made it difficult for the Spartans to bring home the win.

The 8th graders travel to Lander on November 8th to play their cross county rivals.
