Thomas Top-10 At State Golf

Riverton sophomore golfer P.J. Thomas finished in a tie for eigth at the state golf tournament held over the weekend at the Star Valley Ranch. His scores were 79-85 for a two-day total of 164. Coach Kennedy will provide more details of all Wolverine golfers soon.

Girl Golfers Compete at Conference

Chancey Crevier, Kim Arima, and Molly Thornton made up the girls golf team that played in the conference tournament at Rock Springs. Crevier fired a total 214 (109-105) for the meet, which included a 43 for her final nine holes. Arima's rounds were 112-108 for a 220. Thornton had rounds of 117-126 that totalled 243.
Kelsey Podlesny of Green River won the tourney with a 149. Rock Springs won the girls team trophy.

Inconsistency Stymies Boy Golfers

Inconsistent scoring proved the downfall of the boy golfers at the conference meet in Rock Springs. Riverton finished 5th with a 685 just 5 strokes from tying Star Valley and Rock Springs for 3rd.
All conference team member PJ Thomas finished 8th with a 161. He was followed by Chris Linton, who completed the 36 holes with a 87-80 for 167. Zack Waxler finished with a 176, Chad Oleson 181, and Colton Erhart 186.
Kip Jones of Green River won the boys competition with a 154.

For the JV boys Eric Cornia shot a 182, Brock Holgate 189, and Zach Brewer 197. They finished 3rd behind Evanston, then came Green River.

Golfers Recover from Slow Start

Evanston's Purple Sage Course provided a challenge for Riverton's golfers last Thursday and Friday. With its rolling hills and difficult greens most golfers struggled through the first day. PJ Thomas came through the first round with an 81 for 18 holes.


On the second day PJ Thomas heated up and shot his best round of the season with a 74, which was good for 5th place overall. Another impressive score came from Zack Waxler with a 78, his first round under 80. Chad Oleson also cut 11 strokes from his first day total. After their first round the Wolverine golfers were 12 strokes out of third, but with the second day improvement we closed the that round 4 out of third place.


For the first time this season the Wolverines had two lady golfers participate.


In the JV part of competition, Stephen Schierman finished with a 174 to claim the 1st place medal.


Ed Stewart from Jackson shot even par the second day to win the boys competition with a 145. Kelsey Podlesny came back the second day to win the girls side of the tournament.

Linksters at Rock Springs Invite

Wolverine golfers were 4th overall at the Rock Springs Invite held the 30 & 31. Leading the team was PJ Thomas with a 159 for 36 holes, which tied him for sixth. Kyle Siddoway of Green River won the meet with a 36 hole total of 144. Zack Waxler shot a 166, Andrew Baltes a 172, Colton Erhart a 175, and Chris Linton a 179. Chad Oleson won the JV section of the tournament with a 170.

During the next weeks the Wolverine must improve their team scoring. This means team members must urge each other to improve scoring during their practice rounds.
